What people who started here say
Real Google reviews, word for word, from people who walked in as beginners. We hold a 5.0 rating from 90+ reviews.
I started at Golden Jiu Jitsu as a complete beginner. Avery runs his gym in a way that feels extremely approachable. In class there is less focus on drilling and more focus on being guided into certain positions and working from there. This lends itself to a fun learning environment that feels more like doing a sport than sitting in on a lecture. You may notice the pricing for classes is clearly posted on the Golden Jiu Jitsu website. As a college student, when i first started looking for gyms, I quickly realized that other gyms in the area will LITERALLY make you come in to the gym and sit in on a HALF HOUR SALES PITCH before giving you any pricing information. When I walked into Golden Jiu Jitsu I signed a waiver, had a chat with Avery about safety and etiquette, and was ready to go. The fact that Golden Jiu Jitsu can be run without the same odd business practices that seem to be common elsewhere is a testament to the fact that Avery's Jiu Jitsu classes really just sell themselves. I've been happier than a dog with two tails since i started and would give the gym 6 stars if i could.

Hands down best investment I’ve made since moving to Golden, after never having tried jiu jitsu before. Coach Avery has developed an amazing curriculum that promotes deep learning and not just pounded repetition, as well as a culture that prioritizes playfulness and trust over hierarchical domination. If you’re at all curious about the sport, give Avery a call - you won’t regret it.

(Beginner-ish/woman) I’ve been training here for almost a year and a half, and this gym exceeded my expectations. It’s a smaller gym with a supportive, fun, and welcoming atmosphere. The level of skill on the mats is high with lots of experienced, technical people training here. The coaching is thoughtful, the rolls are challenging; and the people genuinely want to see one another, support each other, and develop skill. Great spot :)

Can’t recommend this gym enough if you’re trying to learn jiu jitsu! I enjoy the game based structure of the classes which allows you to have a lot fun while exploring common positions that you end up in during live rounds. I prefer this style of teaching compared to the endless drilling of hundreds of moves without knowing how you even end up there in a live round. Again if you want to learn the sport beyond endless drilling of moves and gain a deeper understanding of why you’re doing certain things at certain times I can’t recommend this place enough. Aside from the class structure and methodology behind the teaching/training, the community here is awesome. I have only been training for six months and where I am at now skill wise far exceeds where I thought I would be when I first signed up. I think this is due to the coaches actually caring about my progress and being super approachable anytime I have questions, issues, or feel that I am making the same mistake over and over. It also helps that others training there have been super welcoming and helpful, especially with new comers.

Been training here for about 2 months now, and Golden Jiu Jitsu has a super friendly atmosphere with great training partners, a great learning environment with an emphasis on learning through experimentation and games, and some awesome coaches who are super friendly and helpful. Avery has done an amazing job at creating a helpful and welcoming atmosphere where beginners such as myself feel welcome and are able to learn and improve. Highly recommend!

I've had a great time starting jiu jitsu! As a beginner, the coaches, Avery, Noah, and Coach Teddy, made the transition incredibly smooth. Golden Jiu Jitsu is truly in a league of its own with the classes being built around playfulness. The coaches offer top-notch instruction while giving you the freedom to problem solve, so you can learn to navigate positions and develop your own style. It is apparent that all the coaches have a deep love for the sport. The community here is amazing. I can’t recommend Golden Jiu Jitsu enough, it’s an outstanding place to train!

Questions
Does my friend have to be there?
No. It helps, and they're welcome, but plenty of people come to their first class on their own. A coach meets you at the door and pairs you with someone good with new people.
My friend trains in a different class. Which one do I book?
Fundamentals, unless you've trained for about a year or more. Members can drop into Fundamentals, so your friend can come to yours. If the 5:30 PM Intermediate class is the only time that works for you, text us at 303-578-0198 and we'll book you into it.
Am I too old to start?
No. People start in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. Coaches adjust every game to the person in front of them, and you set your own pace.
What do I wear?
If you have athletic shorts with no pockets, buttons, or zippers, wear those, plus a t-shirt or rash guard. If not, we have loaner clothes you can wear. A water bottle and flip flops are nice to bring, but you don't need them.
Is it safe?
Jiu jitsu is a contact sport, and we take that seriously. Coaches manage intensity for new people, and our culture is simple: tap early, play often, no ego.
What if I can't decide on the day of my class?
The $99 first month is only for joining the same day as your free class. You can still join later, and the Day 30 Guarantee applies whenever you join.
Your friend's already here.
Book a free class this week and tell them which night. If you like it, start for $99.
$99 first month applies to new memberships started the same day as your free intro class. Not available to current members. Guarantee requires at least eight classes in your first 30 days of membership (the free intro class doesn't count), with the refund requested within those 30 days; the refund is your first month's payment, and it ends your membership. It covers the first month only: if you paid for a longer term up front, the rest of that payment is not refunded.
